Wheat Vs Rice

Whenever the talk about fitness comes, my friends ask me to shift from rice to wheat. I have been curious for some time about the nutritional values of both the cereals. Few clicks in wikipedia gave the required values. The below comparison is on the expected lines except for the fat content, which is quite a surprise.


If we consider the Indian diet, apart from the above absolute values I guess we have to consider the fact that we would eat less grams of Chapathi than rice. That would be a substantial reduction in calories straight away.

RAMANUJAM,

Its not only Fats but Carbs also make a difference to the diet. You can see that Rice has more carbs than wheat. Carbs get converted to sugar. And more over rice lacks protiens. that explains why wheat is better than rice.

No doubt wheat is better for most of the people. But rice is better for those who really work hard physically.

Wheat is one culprit that increases sugar content and fat. People can instead have Oats. Rice is better compared, but then having anything in excess is bad. So, best option is to have everything in moderation. - Jay

Wheat is better when eating with hands,less messy than rice.
Whole grain rice not white.
Wheat bread not fried in oil.
