Football Mania
With most of my predictions going haywire in the quarterfinals, I have started appreciating the game more. I have always loved the unpredictability of sports, and football is showing me its own version of the phenomena.
Over the past few weeks the general discussion topic anywhere is football. It is quite interesting to note that a cricket crazy country has something that would eclipse the Indian team's victory in the Caribbean. Yes, not many are talking about the Indian cricket team's victory, and the event that they are discussing does not have India participating! Is football really that attracting that people are wooed towards it? Or does it have to do with mere exhibition of knowledge in different sports? I don't know about other places, but atleast in Chennai it could just be attributed to the lack of transmission of the cricket match. In effect, the set-top box issue is popularising football

I think normal service will resume once the cricket World Cup starts in a years time. Football will be forgotten as it has been for the last 40 odd years.
1) Well a part has to be the media coverage as well.
2) People has lost faith in Indian cricket team that they have to struggle even to teams that lack talent.
3) In places like Kerala and Bengal always Football takes centerstage over cricket.
Maybe its got to do with the increasing globalisation of the outlook of the 'aam aadmi'. With the seeping in of outside cultures, the IT boom and many other innumerable causes, Indians must be some of the most globally aware people.
Vaik: Loosing faith in Indian cricket team? Thats nothing new. And while loosing faith happens, gaining hope also happens. The cycle continues. It has been repeated many times. So I dont thing you can give that reason for the growing interest in football. Incidentally there is no India team in football WC. Or are you saying that people are loosing faith in cricket itself?
it's a once-in-4-years hype and soccer deserves it cos it's played worldwide. but cricket is simply unbeatable. i think the Carribean victory wasnt celebrated as much as it should have been cos Sachin was missing? hehe.
Cricket rules!
Thought only i wasn't blogging enough these days. Looks like I have company... :)
