Wazzup?
Habits are die-hard. There was a time when I was habituated to write blogs and used to write one a day. Now I am into the habit of not writing blogs and I guess the time spacing between the previous post and this one stands testimony. Anyways I plan to get back into the habit as a) I like writing and b) I like reading my old blogs and I need to write to have blogs to read in the future.
Let me recount as to what all have happened in the past month or so, that I was out of the blogosphere. For one, while writing the last line I rhymed 'past' with 'cast' and not .... well, can't find a rhyme for the British pronunciation of the letter a in 'past' as all words like fast, path, half are said differently here. Nope, I am not trying to get Americanized. It is just the influence of some guys around me.
Also I got out of my stay-at-home syndrome and go out. The Chicago trip was hectic and enjoyable. We tried to cover as many places as possible in the available time and were successful to some extent.
Participated in a cultural fest in a local school in which we put a booth representing Indian culture. We decorated 3 tables with Indian items like rangoli, Indian sweets, sarees, small idols, and a carrom board. Yep, carrom is the Indian game that we were felt would attract kids, and also something that we could showcase. It was big hit among the kids. We also decorated a wall with collages representing India - the architectures, diversity, unity, fauna, etc. I had also made a ppt showcasing the things I felt would represent India well. Most people expressed awe on hearing things like the number of languages spoken in India (in one case a Gujju frined of mine and I had to speak a sentencein our mother tongues to show that the 18 languages and 1652 dialects do not sound the same!), the pyramid formation for janmashtami, the influence in Indian architecture by the various dynasties that ruled us, etc. There were a wide variety of questions that were shot at me like "With so much diversity, doesn't discrimination exist", I surely enjoyed the whole event. The school has made a PowerPoint presentation with some of the pictures taken on that day. It could be found at http://hs.forestlake.k12.mn.us/flas/festivalofcultures
